Presence, Play & Failure: What Comedians Can Teach Educators About Great Teaching

LEARN MORE

Improv Class for Educators!? Say What?!

Every time a comedian steps onto a stage, they face uncertainty. They read the room, adapt in real time, recover from mistakes, respond to the unexpected, and learn how to transform failure into connection. They understand that growth happens through experimentation, vulnerability, and a willingness to take risks.

This unique professional development experience explores what educators can learn from the worlds of comedy, clowning, and improvisation. Through playful activities and reflective practice, participants will discover how presence, adaptability, curiosity, and resilience can strengthen their teaching and deepen their connections with learners.

Perhaps most importantly, this class explores how to navigate failure with confidence. When a lesson falls flat, technology fails, students respond differently than expected, or an activity doesn't go as planned, how do we recover, adapt, and move forward? What if mistakes became opportunities for learning rather than moments to avoid?

The ability to think on our feet, laugh at ourselves, embrace uncertainty, and remain fully present may be some of the most important teaching skills we never learned in teacher training.

Unexpected. Playful. Reflective. Transformative.
